On November 2-4, 2012, a group of ART students and researchers participated an Hot Rock Cook-Off at the Texas State University campus in Aquarena Center, Spring Lake. The focus was on using fire-heated rocks to cook food as has been done historically by ancient populations around the world. This event provided opportunity to strengthen collaborative efforts with our colleagues in Anthropology who hope that spectroscopic technic=ques might provide more efficent and accurate means for identifing the specimens being found in these type of ovens in archeological digs. The cook-off provided an excellent opportunity to obtain known samples for control measurements.
