"Compact Stimulated Raman Back-Scattering Laser of Very High Intensity for X-Ray Lasers "

This talk will present a new approach to developing compact soft X-ray lasers for
applications in high resolution microscopy of biological cells and for creating sub-
fsec train pulses. This new approach is based on the use of ultra-intense fsec pulses
generated by a compact Stimulated Raman Back-Scattering laser ("SRBS laser").
We are proposing to build this SRBS laser at Baylor University and follow up by
using it in the development of a new generation of recombination soft X-ray lasers.
Basic information about SRBS, demonstration of very high pulse intensity
amplification and compression, and the development of recombination soft X-ray
lasers using SRBS laser as their pumping system will be presented, as well.
