Experimental Ultra-Cold Atoms: from the lab to the real world.
The first part of this talk will be devoted to the essential tools that experimentalists in ultra-cold atoms have at their disposal. I will feature three of my past work where Feshbach Resonances, Optical Lattices, and Cavity QED was used to create novel condensed matter Hamiltonians and I hope start a discussion on possible routes for collaboration. Then I will talk about a new effort to try to bring these technologies to real world applications, including portable BEC machines and precise magnetometers for brain imaging. If time permits, I would also like to discuss some of my theory work on uses of ultra-cold atoms to test fundamental areas in relativistic quantum mechanics.
