IQSE AMO QO Seminar Series

Wednesday, May 4th 12:30 pm CST, ZOOM&IQSE seminar room (MPHY 578)

Lunch will be served for IQSE members at 11:00 am. Dr. Duff’s talk will start around 11:30 am. Dr. Dykaar’s talk at 12:30 pm.

Problem: How to optically detect molecular species (in a hot smokestack)?

Optical fibers have been used to transmit light with very low loss, but using the same technology to get light to interact with the environment as a fiber sensor has been problematic.

A new approach is shown to provide the capability for light to interact with the surrounding environment using a novel fiber geometry in a cost effective and sensitive way.

An example implementation of a fiber diffuser is presented.
